Roseville, Placer County
Roseville grew up around the railroad. It began in 1864 as a stop called Junction, where two lines crossed, and boomed after the Southern Pacific moved its shops here from Rocklin in the early 1900s. The city incorporated in 1909. Union Pacific still runs the J.R. Davis Yard through the middle of town, the largest rail yard on the West Coast.
